Google ships three Gemini Flash models in a single day
On 21 July 2026 Google released Gemini 3.6 Flash, Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite and Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber — three lightweight models pushed out together.
Google released three Gemini models on 21 July 2026, all in the lightweight Flash family:
- Gemini 3.6 Flash
- Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite
- Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber
All three are proprietary, API-served models rather than open weights.
Why three at once
The Flash line is Google's high-volume tier: small, fast and cheap enough to sit in a product's hot path rather than behind an "ask the AI" button. Shipping a 3.6 alongside two 3.5 variants suggests segmentation rather than a single step forward — a general Flash, a cheaper Flash-Lite, and a named variant aimed at a specific domain.
What this tier is actually for
For a business running customer chat, classification, extraction or summarisation at volume, the Flash tier is usually the right default. The economics matter more than the leaderboard: a model that is 90% as good at a fifth of the price wins almost every high-volume workload, and you escalate only the hard requests to a frontier-tier model.

What we are not claiming
The trackers we rely on list the release dates and the model names, but not context windows, pricing or benchmark placements for these three. We are not going to invent those numbers. When Google's model cards land, this page gets updated.
